The Road to Seolbong Park
Icheon Seolbong Park
Icheon successfully hosted the World Ceramics Expo!
We invite you to visit Seolbong Park, where the expo was held.
Seolbong Park, located at 408-3, Gwanggo-dong, Icheon-si, successfully hosted the World Ceramics Expo in 2001. Now, it hosts various events such as the Icheon Ceramics Festival and the Icheon Rice Culture Festival every year. With Seolbongsan Mountain behind it and Seolbong Lake in front of it, the park is also an ideal place for relaxation for Icheon citizens.
When you arrive at Seolbong Park, the first thing you see is Seolbong Lake, and you can't help but say, "Wow!" In front of the lake, the busy world seems to stop for a moment. As you stare at the lake, you can see people walking around it. Ducks wading in the lake, couples walking hand in hand, and families taking pictures of each other. There's no reason not to melt into its warmth. Making this lake seem a little more special is the Seolbong International Sculpture Park that surrounds it.
Seolbong International Sculpture Park
Seolbong International Sculpture Park, which was established in 1998, exhibits the works of artists who participated in the Icheon International Sculpture Symposium. More than 60 sculptures are on display, including works by German artist Ulrike Birkhoff, who won the grand prize in the first session, and works by artists who won the grand prize in the second session. Due to the high standard of the sculptures, people walking along the lake surrounded by sculptures look like they are strolling along a European palace. The best works from the Icheon International Sculpture Symposium, which is held every summer, are exhibited here. It's a great way to see the sculptures while walking along the lake, as if it is wearing a new outfit every year.
Like the space that hosted the Expo, there are plenty of parking spaces and empty lots all around. The people of Icheon are familiar with the park, spreading out mats on the lawn and chatting cheerfully, sitting on benches while reading books, and children playing on bicycles in the large open space. You may envy the people of Icheon with such a wide space nearby. It's a relaxing park, but Seolbong Park is no ordinary park. It's more appropriately named " Seolbong theme park," offering many things to see and do.
이Icheon City Museum showcases
With more than 1,000 artifacts, the Icheon City Museum showcases the tradition and style of Icheon's ceramic culture, which has a thousand-year history.
From the prehistoric times till today, it's amazing to see how the style of ceramics has changed with the passage of time, as we admire the wisdom and discernment of our ancestors. When you look at the delicate ceramics, you may wonder if you can use them in your everyday life, and you may feel like buying a piece on your way home.
(Tuesday-Sunday 09:00-18:00 / Closed every Monday, January 1, Lunar New Year’s Day and Chuseok day, and the day after holidays)
Cerapia
If the City Museum focuses on the history of ceramics, Cerapia focuses on the present and the future of ceramics. Cerapia, also known as the Icheon World Ceramics Center, is a multifunctional cultural space that includes an art museum where visitors can see the flow of world ceramic art, a creative space where artists can devote themselves to their work, and a variety of experiences for visitors. The center hosts various projects and special exhibitions every year, including the World Ceramics Biennale, which is held every two years, to showcase global and contemporary ceramics. Also, it serves as the center of the world's ceramics industry, including the discovery of emerging artists.

Woljeon Museum of Art
The Woljeon Museum of Art is dedicated to the memory of Woljeon Chang Woo-Soung, a master of Korean painting.
At a time when Korean art was losing its strength to Western aesthetics and expression, Chang Woo-Soung set a new course for Korean painting by inheriting the essence of traditional period art in a modern way. He pioneered a new type of Korean painting by adding realism and formability to literary paintings, combining literature, painting, and writing. Moreover, he trained many students at Seoul National University and Hongik University, many of whom are now the mainstays of the Korean art world. The museum exhibits not only Woljeon's works, but also the entire collection of Korean antique art collected by Woljeon during his lifetime, as well as 1,532 works from the Woljeon Museum of Art's collection.
(Tuesday-Sunday 10:00-18:00 / Closed - every Monday, January 1, Lunar New Year, Chuseok Holiday)
