Dorip-ri Baeksa-myeon and Gyeongsa-ri
of Icheon city are villages that consist
of thousands of Sansuyu trees, aged
between 100 and 500 years old. Every
March and April, yellow Sansuyu flowers
deliver the sign of spring while red
fruits attract tourists once again in
October. Also Yukgeojeong, which has
the spirits of the old sages of the
Joseon Dynasty period, is found here.
Banryongsong
Banryongsong, which is the 381st
natural monument of Korea, attracts
attention. The name, Banryongsong originates
from the shape of a dragon that coils
itself before the ascension. It has
a similar shape as the Banryongsong.
Do-sun, who was a monk and expert of
geomantic studies in the last period
of Silla, who was given five spots to
plant trees.
A tradition says this spot is one of
the five.
Jiseok-myo;
An ancient dolmen
It is the
remains from the prehistoric age which
is located in a levee about 10 m away
[to the right] from the entrance of
Jiseok-ri Sindun-myeon village. Generally,
Jiseok-myo is considered as the tomb
of the tribe leader in the Bronze Age
so the areas around Jiseok-myo were
considered as a large village of tribal
groups in the prehistoric age.
Icheon
Pinus Bungeana
Pinus Bungeana is an evergreen tree
of China, but few of them grow in Korea.
There are only 8 of them in Korea.
Its age is considered to be over 220
years old and its height is about 16m.
It is divided by two stumps from the
bottom part, so it gives a special impression
by having twigs aside.
Icheon
Ceramic Art Village
The areas of Saeum-dong and Sindun-myeon
of Icheon city are Icheon¡¯s famous ceramic
art village that is crowded with many
ceramic companies.
The ceramic artists were gathered to
investigate the production technique
of traditional ceramic wares, whose
tradition had stopped. So it became
a traditional center of ceramic art
that continues artistic spirits.
Haegang-Ceramics
Museum
Opened
in 1990, it is the best museum of ceramics
that displays and studies only ceramics.
It helps the understanding of ceramics
and is concerned with the past of ceramic
art and current status. This museum
has a ceramic culture room and relics
display room, so it displays many relics
such as celadon porcelains, grayish-blue-powdered
celadons, black-oil ceramics and dopyeons.
Geun-Hyeong Yoo, who is a master of
celadon porcelain and the 3rd intangible
cultural asset of Korea, collected ceramics
and ancient relics through his life.
These are displayed in this museum with
about 1,400 pieces of ceramic art pieces.
Also about 20 valuable pieces of Haegang
are in these museums which give a chance
to experience Korean traditional celadon
green of celadon porcelain. There are
extra audio-visual classrooms and ceramic
institutes in this museum, so the academic
studies of Korean ceramic art are being
processed. In order to help the understanding
of ceramics there is a ceramics production
spot. A further chance to experience
the ceramic production process for visitors
is provided through the ceramic art
class.
