Icheon
Rice, Gift Product for Kings
In order to inform people of the greatness of Icheon
rice, which is a general product of Icheon, this
festival is opened in the harvesting season each
year. Since 2001, various traditional cultures like
Stick Hitting, Burning Daljip, straw making, twisting
straw rope, straw shoes making, Yongusheteulgi have
been experienced.
In this event, the theme gardens, like new rice
open space, new rice cultural room, new rice restaurants,
straw culture garden, new rice market, and new rice
street are operated.
Also there are various things to see like Thanksgiving
celebration, straw culture experience, new rice
cooking contest, and lifting straw bags. Traditional
cultures like old-fashioned thrashing, straw thatch,
and the covering of a roof-ridge or a mud wall are
reappeared. Those city students, who think rice
is produced in trees, will learn about Korean traditional
farming cultures and games.
By using a rice-polishing [-cleaning] machine, rice
is sold by polishing. Newly produced rice in iron
pots, called field rice, can be tasted in the actual
spot. In the festival field, various local farming
products are sold with rice. But it is not only
for the selling, but also it is a festival where
the farmers and tourists can gather together.
