Beautiful Sansuyu
Flowers which are preachers of new spring
Based on the 2001 World Ceramic Expo, Icheon has
the potential of becoming a great tourist city of
the world. Every early April, the Sansuyu festival
is opened to proclaim the new spring. Baeksa-myeon,
which is the event exposition, consists of Sansuyu
trees of autogenous sites that are over 100 years
old. The farms near the edge of Wonjeok Mountain,
like Songmal-ri Baeksa-myeon, Gyeongsa-ri, and Dorip-ri,
consist of Sansuyu trees. It is the best site in
Korea, when the village is covered by yellow flowers
in the early spring and red fruits in fall. |
Yellow Flowers that embroider from Songmal-ri to
Dorip-ri
A long time ago, the Sansuyu site became a famous
place for seeing spring flowers. As you drive in
the direction of Ipo Big Bridge of Yeoju from downtown
Icheon, you will see the sign for Yeongwon Temple
at the left side as you reach Hyeonbang-ri. The
way forward from Yeongwon Temple under Wonjeok Mountain,
which is the highest mountain (634m) in Icheon,
has a lot of sansuyu trees from Songmal-ri to Dorip-ri.
Driving along the curving road toward Wonjeok Mountain
for a while, you will face groups of Sansuyu that
color the site yellow. Normally, the flowers start
to bloom in late March so it has the best view around
the time of April 10th.
Icheon opens the Sansuyu festival during this period.
A lot of photographers and amateur artists come
at this time to take pictures of the view or draw
pictures of it. The people in this village show
off and say that the Sansuyu trees are over 100
years old.
