| Sindun-myeon
Suha-ri Zelkova |
 |
Location:
87-2(Saewool) Suha-ri, Sindun-myeon,
Icheon-si |
 |
Age:
400 years |
|
| There was a huge well 500 years ago.
It was so big that it was called Sae,
while the well was called Wool. The
name of Suhari originates from the
village located under the edge of
Hancheonsu. The zelkova was located
in the center of the village. So the
people in the village predicted their
fate of farming by how the tree leaves
bloomed. If the leaves bloomed at
the same time, it meant good luck
for their farming in the year. If
the leaves bloomed one by one, it
meant they would have bad luck of
their farming in the year. It the
leaves at the top of this tree bloomed
at first, it meant the rice planting
of rice paddies that depend solely
on rainfall for water would be earlier.
It means that there would be frequent
spring rainfalls. This tree was known
as the tree that cried before the
Korean War (June 25) was broken. Also
this tree had cried ten years ago,
so the people in the village perform
ancestral rites. These days, this
tree is used as a good place where
people can take a rest. |

Before the Korean War (June 25, 1950),
all people in the village treated
it like a God, so they prayed for
good luck on the 15th day of the first

also built Samgoejeong and had a lot
of students. There is a rumor that,
about 100 years ago, the descendents
sold 1 tree. After that, a lot of people
in the village were killed by some strange
disease so they put some rice-cake and
food in front of two of the other trees
for 3 months and 10 days to show their

was a terrible drought, so people
got water from the village near them.
An ascetic, who was passing by the
village, planted a zelkova beside
a well. Then water flew out of it.
About 20 years ago, the well was used
by the people in the village to drink

| Yul-myeon
Sanseong-ri Zelkova |
 |
Location:
San 77-9 Yul-myeon, Sanseong1-ri,
(a mountainous district, Jeongmunmal)
|
 |
Age:
160 Years old. |
|
The letter San of Sandong and Seong
of Sanseong-ri were combined so people
called it Sanseong-ri. This village
was called Sandong (Mountain Village),
because Palseong Mountain, which is
in Eumsung-gun Chungbuk, was spread
out to make a village. This village
was also called Sangol (a mountainous
district). It was called Jeongmunmal
because there was a Jeongmun (a front
gate).
This tree is located at the entrance
of the village. About 35 years ago Yungi
Eo, who was the offspring of General
Jaeyeon Eo, died. His funeral was conducted
under the tree with beer. All the callers
for condolence, who ate the food, became
sick without reason. After that, people
never put beer under the tree. When
there is a big event in the village,
they give some alcohol to the tree to
pray for good luck and health.
