The Halo stone construction and Yeunhwajwadae are known to have been constructed
during the establishment of Yeungwolam.
The structure collapsed and lost its
Buddhist image statue, which was placed
in the centre, but is now restored
in front of the main building of the
temple.
Yeunhwajwadae is connected with 8
angles of lower supporting stones
and 8 angles of myeonsang, yangyeunjwa,
4 parts of Yeunjwa as one stone on

This tomb, remains of the prehistoric
age, is located on the ridge between
rice fields about 10m right from the
ramp of the village of Jiseok-ri.
This dolmen has the figure of a table
with a placing cover stone on top of
the chamber and based on the villagers,
the relics such as a stone knife and
a stone arrow head were dug out but
there is no trace. Usually the dolmen
is predicted to be the tomb of a chief
of a tribe from the bronze war age,
as this proof creates high possibility
that the area, centered around Jiseok-ri,
was the settlement for small or large
tribes in the prehistoric age. |

and on top of that 5 pieces of marble
roof are piled, although missing the
top of the pagoda and 4 pieces on the

| This stone Buddha is a huge standing
statue, with a head, hair, and small
body. The ears are so big that they
run down to both shoulders and the neck
has clear 3m to give a feeling of schematization.
The Buddhist priest¡¯s robe runs from
the chest till it becomes oval at both
knees, touching close to the feet. The
right hand is straightly spread aside
and the left hand faced outward, tilting
in front of the stomach. The hands seem
to be large compared to the body. As
the ridge of the nose and fingers were
worn out, the cement was added to strengthen
it. There is about a 10cm square hole
in the middle of the back. The decoration
was originally attached in the past.
The standardized style shows the decline
of Buddhism sculpture which leads to
the prediction that the statue was constructed
in the late-middle Goryeo period. |

This granite stone Buddha was first
constructed connecting the lower and
upper parts of the waist. However, long
before the neck, body, and waist were
destroyed and left, as in the 1980s,
it was restored to its present location
with the support of cement. This Buddhist
image statue stands on a perfect square
sitting face to face, and its size is
4.10m in height and 73cm in breadth.
About 165cm of 4 stone pillars and the
square shaped block of the stone, which
is in front of the statue, around the
statue are the original parts from the
old statue.
Overall, the body is thinner and longer
than the head to show the imbalance
which is its characteristic trait.
The constructing year of the Buddhist
image statue is predicted to be in the
mid Goryeo period. |

It was sculptured on the granite
living rock which is located about 7m
below from Maae Buddha statue, known
as Mount Maguk¡¯s Buddha rock. This three
existing Buddhas statue was sculpted
on the flat living rock surface facing
the southwest towards the Juhyeung Halo
which is located close by, and is in
the shape of three Buddhas sitting with
one¡¯s legs completely crossed. .
This stone Buddha has a special feature
by showing the cartoonish and exaggerated
expression which can be seen from a
clay doll from Silla or an image of
a god from an unknown tribe. Overall,
it is unbalanced and strays from the
normal Buddha image statue model. However,
the simple mischievous child expression
adds the feeling of friendship, and
it is predicted to have been built approximately
in the late-mid Goryeo period. |

The Buddha image statue is cut on a
granite living rock and built in a rectangular
slabstone, 203cm in height, 79 -91cm
in breadth, and thickness of 15 ? 20cm.
It inclines to the left, the front side
is carved to a depth of 1cm in a refined,
tenderness skill.
¡¸ãæñòÔÔÏÐæ¨ò¢ãÕ¡¹In Buljajo¡¸í¡à´ÞÑî¤ûÂÛö×ìÓÞÓìߣ records
show that the temple of Ipseok was placed
in the heart of the mountain.
Also, there is the ridge of Ipseokjae
named on the west side of the Buddha
image statue showing that there is a
high possibility that the origin of
Ipseok comes from these rocks on Buddha
statues. |

It was originally placed in the Yaksajeon
which is on the right side of the main
building of Yeongwon temple. In 1985,
when the new Yeonhwa pedestal was built,
it was moved to the present location.
The head part above the neck was also
constructed in recent years. Presently
the height of this Buddha image statue
is 118cm, shoulder width of 71cm, knee
width of 105cm, and the height of the
pedestal is 94cm.
The newly constructed head has gray
hair, the balance matches, and both
ears are hung down till the top of neck.
In the record of Yeongwon temple, Haehong
Zen master found the temple (638) and
placed a Yaksa Buddha pedestal under
the Sumaho stone. However, the expression
method shown by this Buddha image statue
makes it hard to believe that this statue
was made during the period of the Three
States or beyond the time. |

In the 14th year of Joseon¡¯s King
Jungjong, the decline of the phenomena
of principled politics was centered
around Gwangjo Cho. This pavilion was
built by Namdang Eom Yongsun to avoid
the crisis.
At first, it was a thatched cottage
separated from the main building of
the house, but later with many renovations
it became how it looks today..
The name of Yunggoejung has been traced
back to six scholars who planted six
zelkova trees. The scholars were Gyesan
Ohkyung, Toehu Yim Naesin, Dumun Sung
Damryeong, Namdang Eom Yongsun, and
including Mojae Kim Ahngook, the noted
wiseman at that time, and it was meant
for their gathering to display of their
learnings and poetries.

Yeongwonam, which is placed on the
highest peak of Mount Seolbong from
Jin Mountain Icheon, is the typical
old temple in the district. From the
Yeoji book written in the 36th year
of Chosum King Yeongjo and the map of
Icheon-gun it is known as Bukak temple
but later was changed to Youngwolam
which is now part of the Jogye order.
During the construction of Yeongwalarm,
about 1300 years ago, in the regime
of King Munseong, the 30th King of Silla,
Haedonghwaeom bell was established but
there is no written document to prove
its authenticity.
However, Seokjo Halo and Yeonhwajwadae
and the Stone building three storied
pagoda prove that these works were constructed
in the mid Goryeo period.
The armful ginko tree stands in front
of the temple, aged around 600 years,
and there is a myth of the great Naong
priest who stuck his cane in the ground
and later it grew during his stay in
the temple. On July 7th of 1988, the
tree was preserved to be the traditional
sight. |

From ???? of Yim Wonjun recorded
in ½Å????????, Aeryeonjung was built
by Lee Sebo who was promoted to Mayor
of Icheon in the 5th year of King Seongjong.
At first, there was a small pavilion
on the south of the Icheon office, located
east of the government office, but at
the time of his promotion it was inclined
with no care. Lee Sebo fixed the pavilion
while upgrading its size with height,
so that it was neither low nor high,
and inexpensive.
Below the pavilion was a natural swamp
but this was dug as the squared pond
with a lotus planted in the middle.
The prime minister Shin Seokju did a
favor by naming it as Aeryeon.
In the 4th year of King Jeongjong (1509),
Deputy Lee Seoneon extended Aeryeonjung.
In the true record, King Jeongjong opened
his old aged party here, and there is
also a record of visits by King Sukjong,
King Yeongjo, and King Jeongjo. |
